Teaching God’s Word & give-away

As moms teaching our children is something that just comes naturally as being a mom.  From the time they are born we start training them and teaching them things like how to talk, walk, and how to stay away from danger.

As a Christian mom we also have other responsibilities to teach our children as they grow and mature.  One of those is the Word of God.   Remember this is the most important thing you will help your children learn and know!  It’s also our responsibilities as parents….not the church, or Sunday School teachers, or another family members…it’s our job!

God instructs us to teach them and keep it before them.

Deuteronomy 6:7-8  And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.

God’s Word helps us (and your children) not to sin.

Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Now this is not saying once your children memorize scripture they are never going to sin.  But it puts truth into their heart and mind that will help keep them from sin.

God’s Word produces right actions.

When we absorb things into our hearts and minds it eventually comes out.  Everything our children watch on t.v. or music we listen to comes out in the way we act in our speech and the way we treat others.  (Remember that is for us adults too)  So when we put God’s Word in their hearts and they memorize it, they will learn to mediate on it and it transforms their lives.

God’s Word is powerful.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

That is what it does when we read it to them, help them memorize it, and learn to mediate and apply it to our lives.

Tomorrow I will show easy ways to help your children (and yourself) learn to memorize scripture.  Be sure to check back tomorrow!!!

Thank you for the excellent reminder to lead our children in God’s word. Duet. 4:6-7 was the passage God used to guide us to home-school our children. He hid those verses in my heart! So precious to read your beautiful post today, Jennifer. Thank you so much for joining my link-up! I’m so delighted that you link there:-)

This would be an awesome resource! You’re right that we’re always teaching our kids, but some things are easier to teach than others. 🙂 Actually, I’m amazed at how smart my daughters are and how fast they pick up things – something they’ve heard once sticks with them for longer than I’d expect. Which is both good and bad… thanks for the giveaway! 🙂
