My Life is NOT what I Planned

mylifeisnot

Long ago, before kids, before marriage, before finishing college, I had many ideas of what my life would be like.   I had things all planned out, what marriage was going to be like, how many kids I would have, what I would love to be doing, etc.    I’m sure you have had many of thoughts too  when you were younger of what your life was going to look like.

On Monday, (August 12th) my husband and I will are celebrating 18 years of marriage.  Now to some, we are “just beginning”, to others we are pretty established.   Either way, it got me thinking of how my life is NOTHING  like I planned it.

Through the years as you learn to “let go” of your own ideas, your expectations, and your dreams and turn them over to God you see that the path you would of went down isn’t the path that God wanted all along.

This was us almost 19 years ago.....okay you can stop laughing!!

This was us almost 19 years ago…..okay you can stop laughing!!

As we were driving home from church yesterday, I’m amazed at all that God has stretched me to do.  Learning to see God’s plan for your life isn’t always easy, it takes a lot prayer, searching God’s Word, and also faith to step out and do things that we never thought.

Here are some things I never had planned for my life:

Going to Bible College with my husband. (That was a big step of faith for us)

Becoming a Pastor’s Wife.   (that was a BIG one for me)  Really…..ME?   I still feel like I’m in someone else’s shoes at times!

Home Schooling.   Yup, I’ve even said “I will NEVER home school”.   Never say never, God might have other plans.

Having 7 children. (#8 is on the way)    Who knew?   That was so NOT in my plans or my husbands either!

But you know……What I have learned over these past 18 years is that when I yield my life totally to God, it may not be what I had planned but it is what God had planned for me.  God has my best interest at heart!

FAMILYWEBPAGE

This is us about 18 years later MINUS the red hair!

Knowing that I’m following what God wants me to do, brings comfort and peace.  My life these past 18 years haven’t always been a bed of roses everyday, but there is a joy and happiness of seeing all that God has allow me to do and the opportunity of being a mom to so many little blessings.

Let me challenge you today.  Let God guide and direct your life fully, from finances, children, where to work, where to live, what ministry,-every single area of your life.  Let HIM have complete control and lead you in your decisions! No matter what age or stage of life your in.  Give Him your life fully to do what He has planned for you.   You will soon find out that it may not be the life YOU planned, but it will be the most happiest and fulfilled life you can imagine.

I can honestly say that this isn’t how I would of planned my life to turn out…….it’s actually far better than any dream I would of come up with!

I completely agree with your post! My life is not at all what I had planned…and that’s an VERY good thing. I tell my children that if I had had my career in the health field as planned, I would have married someone else, had other kids (only 1 or 2 – not 7!!) gotten divorced, etc. etc. etc. Don’t even mention homeschooling! And I would NOT be serving The Lord and I would NOT be happy!

God is sooooo good! Serving Him is the very BEST thing I could ever do!

Your great, bit family is just beautiful (and congratulations on another on the way); Thank you for the challenge, to follow and trust completely in the Lord’s leading. We are in the process of adopting our third child and it is thrilling, nerve racking, exciting and terrifying all at the same time, but we are certain God’s plans are always best and this is where He is leading!

This is good for me to remember. Right now I am in this (feels like, anyway) agonizing struggle over whether or not to homeschool. My oldest is starting pre-k this year, and I plan on doing some learning activities with my 3 year old, but next year when we start kindergarten…I don’t know. I just don’t know. Deep breath. I am really trying to put it in God’s hands, but it is so hard to shake the anxiety. I don’t want to make the wrong decision 😦

Loved this post! I have been married 34 years. Just this weekend, I found out things about my husband I had never known. It was such a joy & fun to discover new things about him. You are so right – life has included much I never would have thought or included by choice. Yet it all has been so worth it. God truly knew what both my husband & I needed to change & grow in Him. And it has all been worth it!
May God bless you & give you a healthy new one! I was your neighbor this morning at Juana’s & am glad to have been here!
    Blessings,

Hello, I want to thank you for posting this. I am finally giving up the keys and letting God take the driver’s seat. Things were going crazy when I trying to do it my way. Now, all I do is pray and everything is fitting perfectly. It’s not my plan, but it feels right. You are a wonderful example of how a plan at 18 or 24 years old is not the same as God’s plan for your whole life. God Bless you and your family.

  15. My life isn’t quite what I planned either. Ironically, I planned a life that looked more like what yours now looks like. I just assumed we’d have lots of kids. I’d be one of those “typical” homeschoolers (I know, there really is no such thing). We’d adopt several kids and have some biologically. We’d live in the country, maybe we’d be in some kind of ministry. I’d grow our veggies and we’d live near family.
Well, I do homeschool, but not very typically. And we don’t live in the country, grow veggies, or live near family. And we only have 2 children. Sometimes I long for that life I planned. But I know that God knows me better than I do, and that this life is (for some reason) the life that works for me.
Thanks for reminding me that God has my best interest at heart.

  17. I can’t agree more! If someone told me 10 years ago that I would be a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom of 7, I wouldn’t have believed it. This definitely wasn’t my plan; but I wouldn’t change it for anything. Gods plans are far better than ours!

I only recently stumbled onto your blog. I had tears in my eyes. I also feel that my life turned out vastly differently to what I imagined.
In my perfect world I would be the happy wife of a pastor with 4 or 5 adorable kidlets that i would homeschool. The family would be the centre and we would serve the Lord together. Of course we would be so happy. We would live out ìn the country, near the family and I’d grow our own veggies.

But life didn’t turn out that way for me. I got married to a wonderful christian man at the age of 25. We had 2 adorable children, a girl and a boy. We owned a lovely home and we were on our way to building the perfect life. Life was just so perfect. Hubby and I were leaders in the church and very active in ministry.

And then we emigrated. We both felt the call of God to move our little family to another country. And that’s when everything started falling apart. My carefully constructed world began unravelling at the seams. I became pregnant with our third child shortly after we arrived in our new country. My husband had to change careers several times in order to remain employable. I was home raising children, he was working, sometimes up to 14 hours a day. He stopped going to church. Then one night he came home and announced to me that he didn’t want to be part of the marriage any more.

I don’t know where God is ìn all of this. I pray that one day I would understand why all this has happened. But for now, I keep tomy knees and pray for strength to weather this storm….

I’m so sorry to hear about how things went sour. I can see how anyone would be devastated, but remember that in Romans 8:28
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” I pray that God will continue to give your grace and strength to carry on. Remember that God is always near and He can work out details on our behalf if we just trust Him and rest in His care! God Bless!
